Of Unusually SMALL size that is!!!
I distracted my little brother and sister for a bit while my mom ran out to get Grace's Christmas present...
I braided Grace's hair earlier, while my mom returned (secretly) with not one, but two hamsters!
Here they are chillin' in their little box while I assembled what was probably the most difficult habitat in exsistence. I've never owned a hamster, but building a place for them to live is like completing Calculus....which I've also never done.
The little guys seem to have appreciated my efforts though....
Shh! Everyone, it's a surprise. Now let's just hope that Dani and Grace don't start checking blogs.
Oh man! They are so cute. I've been thinking about them all day. I just want to pick them up and hold them. I wonder what she'll name them. Anyway, we have to come up with a sweet plan of bringing them to the Christmas party. I think we should make Grace sit on the couch and close her eyes, and then you should put the hamsters in the carry box, so it's easier for her to pick them up and hold them. We can bring in the tricked out habitat later. Thanks again for putting that nightmare together! I'm so excited!
ReplyDeleteAww, cool! Hamsters are the best first pet! Just make sure to teach the #1 lesson: don't squeeze it too hard, or it stops breathing....
ReplyDeleteI think your plan should include saving the hamster surprise for last...she's not gonna care about anything else once she gets that present, aka Aunt Mary's lame book gift.
They're super cute, but I'm afraid to pick them up!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to skype you guys at the Christmas party so we can hear all about them!
ReplyDeleteCHRISTMAS TIME!!! YOU MEAN WE HAVE TO WAIT??
DeleteWell, I'm here most of the time so I can skype whenever. Mostly I just sit around and stuff my face while Nolan's at work. He buys me lots of snacks to keep me busy. BUT Nolan is always at work and wakes up at the last possible minute, so you'll probably have to wait until Christmas to skype him because he's a big lazy baby.
DeleteHahaha! Sounds like your havin a good time. Hmmm...I wonder if I can get skype to work...I'll figure it out!
DeleteRachel,
ReplyDeleteHandle them the first few times with thick gardening gloves, because they can bite initially, but they get used to being held pretty quickly.
M
Yeah they get me every time with their warrior pose if they see my hand comin' at them...I think they know I'm afraid!
DeleteThese are super, super gentle hamsters. I've already picked them up a bunch of times. Rachel keeps mistaking their standing on their hind legs as them being in a "fighting" stance. Nothing could be further from the truth. They are just inquisitive. So sweet!
ReplyDeleteI think they were just hammin' it up so you'd buy them. Now they're feisty!
DeleteAHHH! Look at his cute little face!!!
ReplyDeleteMy mom always told me hamsters and gerbils were nocturnal and just sleep all day. I think she may have used this as a tactic to deter me from wanting one. GENIUS move on her part -- I never even questioned it.
Yeah I think it's because it's so weirdly dark in our house that they don't know what time it is. WIN!
