As many of us in the fam are starting to embrace this whole food, plant-based lifestyle my cousin Selina brought up the subject of our make-up ingredients, and how many chemicals we must be absorbing through our skin daily.
I'm not gonna lie, opting for something other than what I love to buy is going to be a tough one. You've all seen my make-up collection, that shit is expensive!!! It's going to take me a long time to go through it all anyway, because I'm not just going to toss it out, I just can't.
However, I did look up some vegan-friendly make-up brands, and I was surprised to see some that I already knew about.
That is a link to tarte cosmetics. Last summer I purchased some tinted moisturizer made by them at Ulta, it was fantastic. Perfectly blended into my skin and gave the light summer coverage that only a tinted moisturizer can!
The above article gives a list of 3 vegan-friendly brands. Now, this pretty much means that they don't test on animals, great. However, I can't say that their ingredients are all plant-based, natural ones. One could argue that most make-up is natural since the many colors come from minerals, but like Selina put it, "Just because you find it in the earth doesn't mean we need to be putting it on our skin every day...."
So, I invite everyone to search for some really natural plant-based or healthy mineral make-up and to share their thoughts and findings in the comments!
Also, as fate would have it, I read a really good post today on beauty by MC, Cammila Collar's hubby from www.dresseduplikealady.blogspot.com , that I also invite everyone to read. Especially all you ladies who may have noticed some beauty lines lately! Here's the link to the post:
Have a lovely day my lovelies!
If you're tossing stuff out, I'll take it!

hahaha!! Oh I'm definitely too poor to re-stock my whole collection right now...I'm just gonna use it up :)
DeleteThanks for the links, Rach! I didn't know Urban Decay was vegan. :) I'm feeling the same as you: rather than get discouraged and overwhelmed by how many foods and products are bad for our bodies or our world, I'm just going to try to keep discovering, choosing and adding the good things! It's so exciting!
ReplyDeleteI haven't worn a drop of eye makeup since I read the ingredients on mine. I will probably invest in better, safer products: but in the meantime, I just went cold turkey. Eek!
Totally! Kadi pinned a few on pinterest that I really want to find, one is called ZuZu and it looks great, but hecka expensive (slowly, but surely will be the method there). I admire your will to give up make-up, and Nicole's that one Lent, I'm sure working on our inner-beauty will be the best makeover we could try!
