The Spontaneous L.A. Art Trip: The Journey Continues

As promised, I wanted to post some more pictures of the famous art I got to see and the continuation of our L.A. art trip or LArt trip.

Now, you could probably search the web or look in any art history book and see the exact same pictures I'm about to show you....but I don't care! These are the particular ones that I like, so enjoy!

This is a funny sculpture by Alexander Calder....I think it's Alexander...anyway, he pretty much invented the 'mobile'.....

The following will be a few sculptures by Claes Oldenburg, one of my favorite artists of all time, he made the flashlight sculpture at UNLV and is known for making sculptures of ordinary objects gi-normous!

Can you tell what these sculptures are?

Undies!!

I think this is Rauschenberg.....

Lichtenstein....

Lichtenstein....

Rauschenberg...look at that hand!

Rauschenberg.....

Rauschenberg....

This is Yves Klein...

...and now my favorites! The Rothko's. It's hard to like these paintings without actually being in their presence....when you're reading an art history book you just kinda think "yep, yep, three colors, got it"...in person though, they are much larger and beautiful.

This was my favorite one but I can't get the color right, it's actually really purple.

Yasmina and Rothko....

Mondrian....so small!

We grabbed a little snack at the museum cafe...I had a mocha with soymilk...

....and kale, curry cauliflower...beets..and delicious sweet potatoes....

....after a brief look at another gallery (of a show I didn't get pictures of ) it was time to head to The Box Gallery, where McCarthy was giving a talk....Yasmina loved this light so we made use of it....

I love graffiti when it's colorful like this......

We got to the gallery as they were still setting up for the talk. We also learned that it wouldn't only be Paul McCarthy, but Carolee Schneemann, Barbara T.Smith, Judith Bernstein, and a man who lived in Otto Muehl's commune for 18 years giving talks as well.

It was so amazing to sit in front of people that I had only read about in books, all talking to each other like old friends, and to hear their actual opinions and explanations on art...

McCarthy is the old man in the back next to the guy in the red baseball cap. I love the lady with the dog in the gallery.

After the talk we had dinner in Little Tokyo and devoured that plate of curry fries....I don't know if I'd had anything more delicious.....

Alright everyone! Time to go make some more yummy vegan food.
